It's been a long time since I made a vinyl podcast. It has been quite the busy year with a new baby on the way, two of the bands I am in doing timely recordings, mixing another release for band I used to be in, spending lots of doing house work and of course the occasional hour or two of great games this year not to mention the great tabletop games I am fortunate enough to be a part of -insert geek comment here. Not that I haven't thought about doing another podcast, in fact I have. I make notes of songs to gather for podcasts while going through recent and older acquisitions while ironing my shirts or cleaning, my office or house, what have you. I have compiled at least the final 3 for the first round of 10 that has taken 2010 and the end of 2011 to even produce and would love to do more. I do foresee more "being at home time" in the near future once the little munchkin arrives so there may yet be a second season of vinyl coming your way. Hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I have had making them.

The second round has come. It is another podcast, Episode 6 to be exact. The last 5 in the 10 podcast series have a little extra, a new optional format - m4a. If you frequently use an Apple product such as iTunes, iPad, iPhone etc. etc. you now have m4a download option to get that little bit of extras like album images and song titles depending on devices and players. There has been too much nothing going on here. Time for an update, no excuses. Can not blame it on the recession(s)? I can actually but I will refrain. I have luckily some fresh vinyl in my possession which got me itchin' for some wax. My records have received the silent treatment for too long. I believe round two is in order. But before I venture into the new round of podcast, I beg for some feedback on a few details:

1. Do you NOT use iTunes? Can you listen to a .m4a?

2. Should I lengthen the podcast or is around the 30 minute block enough?

3. ~~Yay or Nay? on the recording year and/or record label description when recalling songs and titles?~~

Actually, I will keep doing this. When I was just a wee bit lad, listening to the radio I always felt I didn't get enough information about the songs I had just heard. So if this part annoys you, you maybe in luck. If I decide to have m4a's they will be indexed and you should be able to skip to the next index.

Wow, two months flew by. I did not expect to take this long getting around to making the third podcast of the series. Well, with that being said, here you go. There is alot of rock n roll in various shapes of sound ranging from arena rock to blues rock and some others in between. There are also a few selections that give your ear a rest from the guitar onslaughts. Hope you enjoy and remember, don't be afraid to leave some constructive criticism.

As promised, here is the Labor Day weekend edition of the Put the Needle on the Record Ep.2 podcast. Due to lengthier selections this podcast has run over the thirty minute mark and I kinda rushed the mic a bit but it will do. If you we left with wanting more from the last podcast while spacing out with the painted lanes on asphalt of your commute or grinding at your keyboards dazed, then you are in for a treat. This time there's more! More cracks and pops than last cast (didn't realize the condition of most of these records until I played then on the new turntable). I apologize again, I am not an audiophile and sometimes the records are in various conditions ranging from "right out of the shrink wrap" to "found this at the flea for twenty-five cents". Anyways, I still find them enjoyable to listen to and I hope you do as well.

Would you care to listen to my podcast?

I love my vinyl but I am not an audiophile. My collection of the pressed disk of grooves is a mere fraction to others out in the world that claim the same love. I do feel like sharing the same joy to my friends out there that would care to listen.

Here is how the journey will begin. I have the means to "put the needle on the record" so to speak now that I have acquired a new turntable. Mind you this is just your average everyday turntable (although new) that I use and not a platter consisting of clouds and exacting precision. It does the job very well and probably better than any other turntable for the price (but that is another post).

On the other hand this podcast is not about the gear and how I can get the best sound but about the music itself and how warm and pleasing it can be to the ear. Of course, we do lose most of the translation for this is a digital podcast and we aren't in front of the speakers while listening. I will try my best not to alter the tracks in anyway other than manipulating the levels for the digital podcast. I will add no EQ, no limiter, no compression nor anything else. You will hear what comes straight out of the preamp of the turntable (see pic to left).

These selections come from my very limited collection of records or if I am lucky enough, from some friends that have generously loaned some of their great collection to share in this podcast. Some will be new releases and some old but hopefully all will be new to you the listener in more ways than one even if you have heard the song before.

As of this post, I have started gathering my selections and will do preliminary work to prepare for this future and initial episode that will run approximately 30 minutes. This is an experiment and requires feedback from you if you can or care to listen.
